Myth 4

rough sleeping.jpg

#Homeless Truth: Rough sleeping makes up just 5% of all homelessness. Many more people are homeless than just the ones we see on the street, but the experience is every bit as damaging for those in hidden forms of homelessness.

Moving from one couch to another, living in refuges, and staying in rooming houses are all forms of homelessness and are destabilising and damaging experiences. Many of these options feel even less safe than sleeping on the street.

It’s hard to hold down a job, keep your kids in school or have normal relationships if you don’t know where you’ll be living week to week, month to month.

Victorian Homelessness Network (VHN), is a partnership of the nine Regional Homelessness Networks in Victoria. The VHN provides a mechanism for strategically progressing issues of common concern across all Regional Homelessness Networks, with a focus on operational issues relating to management of a statewide homelessness service system.
